12 Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do with Skid Steer and Mini Skid Steer Pallet Forks

Obviously, mini skid steer pallet fork attachments are optimized for managing palletized merchandise. But did you know there is a whole world of other things you can use them to accomplish?

Take a look at these lesser-known applications of mini skid steer pallet fork attachments.

Move Boulders

While rock grapples or rock buckets might be a sure-fire bet for moving large boulders, in a pinch, you can use a set of skid steer pallet forks to get the job done, too. Adjustable, hydraulic forks excel, here.

Lift Other Large Equipment

The cool thing about skid steer pallet fork attachments is that you can use them to lift and move other large, heavy equipment.  This is especially useful if you have an incapacitated piece of equipment or an attachment in the way and no other good way to lift and move it.

Another niche application of these attachments is to lift small vehicles like ride-on lawnmowers so you can get under them to access or clean the blades or perform other maintenance or repairs.

Move Dumpsters

Some dumpsters are actually specially designed to be lifted and moved using specialized forks, but any dumpster with a bit of ground clearance is a candidate. You can also use fork attachments to move heavy, unwieldy trash cans.

Move Rolls of Fencing

There are better skid steer attachments for moving or managing large rolls of fences - such as our fence installers. But, if you don’t have one, and you need to make it work with another skid steer attachment, a set of mini skid steer or skid steer pallet forks is a close second.

Wrangling Brush Piles

The same thing applies here: there are better attachments, such as root grapples, but if you don’t have one, you can shimmy a set of pallet forks under a pile to lift or move it, especially if it is very densely tangled and liable to stick together.

Move Heavy Appliances

Heavy appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers can be both fragile and awkward, which is not a good combination. However, a set of pallet forks can make moving them not only easier but less stressful than you might have imagined.

Manage Hay Bales

A bale spear is a better attachment (and more specialized, too) but if all you have is a set of pallet forks, you can make it work. In fact, a set of pallet fork attachments is basically the same exact thing as a two-tine bale spear. They’re just not as sharp.

Move Roofing Materials

Heavy bundles of roofing materials are pretty difficult to move and manage. Tiles, shingles, and even rolls of roofing underlayment are heavy, ungainly, and can even be fragile. This combination of traits makes a set of pallet forks perfect for the job.

Handle Bundles of Pipes

The same goes for large bundles of pipes or even rolls of wire. If you can get the forks under them, you can lift or move them with the attachment.

Move Logs and Downed Trees

Again, a grapple bucket is a more specialized attachment for moving logs, but a set of pallet forks can get the job done if it’s the only option at your disposal. If all you have is a mini skid steer and a pallet fork attachment, with a large log in the way, you’ll be glad you had it.

Suspend a Gambrel

One more niche use of a skid steer with a pallet fork attachment is to suspend a gambrel which can then be used to hang a deer, a hog, or another large game animal for the purpose of gutting, skinning, and quartering.

You can also use these attachments to move your harvests before processing, especially if they are too large to easily carry on your own.

Improvise Basketball Net

No basketball net? No problem. Simply hang a backstop and net from your skid steer’s fork attachments and raise them. You wouldn’t be the first ones to do it!
