What Can Skid Steer Buckets Be Used for?
Skid steer bucket attachments have a wide range of uses and are among the most versatile of all skid steer attachments. They can be used for excavating, grading, light compaction, handling materials, clearing snow and debris for disaster cleanup, and much more. They can also be used to scoop, grapple, carry, and dump materials. Our snow and litter buckets, which are wide and deep and have a large volume, are well-equipped for that.
About Bucket Profile, Width, and Cutting Edge
Skid steer bucket profile, which refers to the length and height of the bucket, is one of the most important determinants of attachment utility. Low-profile buckets are often used for excavation and have a lower back; they are also good for grading as they provide for better clearance and visibility, whereas snow and litter buckets tend to have a higher back and greater volume for material handling. General utility buckets straddle the middle ground.
It is important to match the bucket attachment wisely with the machine. A general rule of thumb is that the bucket should be just a little wider than the base of the machine’s wheels. A little wider is better but too wide is generally not good as it may be too heavy or unwieldy for the skid steer.
Cutting edge is another thing to consider. Our bucket attachments are compatible with smooth cutting edges as well as with teeth. Toothed buckets are generally more effective at aggressive excavation whereas smooth edges lend themselves to profiling, grading, and materials handling.
